About Department of Workforce Development

Purpose

Workforce Development is an economic development approach that attempts to enhance the economic stability and prosperity of a community by focusing on people and industry needs. The Department has a specific emphasis on job readiness, soft skills, training and preparation for employment.

Services

  • Labour Relations Section oversees the certification and decertification of unions in the workplace and manages labour disputes in both unionized and non-unionized environments.
  • • The Training Section is responsible for all internal and external training for employees and clients respectively in collaboration with industry partners and educational institutions.
  • • The Career Development Section is responsible for assessing individuals for employment, career development services and works with employers to refer suitable individuals for employment opportunities.
