About Health Insurance Department

Purpose

To provide affordable healthcare coverage to improve health outcomes across Bermuda.

Services

  • HID offers 3 health insurance plans:
    - HIP Youth: 0-18 years of age; 21 years of age if enrolled in local full time education
    - HIP: 18 years of age and over
    - FutureCare: available to all persons over the age of 65.
  • Hospital Insurance Plan (HIP) and HIP Youth:
    - Benefits consist of basic benefits covering mostly hospitalization, diagnostic imaging, some doctor visits
    - Basic dental coverage
    - Overseas care when medically necessary and personal home care service benefit.
  • FutureCare: includes the same basic benefits as HIP and includes added coverage such as:
    - Pharmacy up to $2000/year
    - Smaller co-pay on overseas care
    - Eyeglasses
    - More GP visits.
